Latin translations

Track 1 – Flos Carméli
Flos Carmeli, vitis florigera, splendor caeli, virgo puerpera singularis. Mater mitis sed viri nescia Carmelitis esto propitia stella maris.  Mater dulcis Carmeli domina, plebem tuam reple laetitia qua bearis. Paradisi clavis et ianua, fac nos duci quo, Mater, gloria coronaris. Amen

Flower of Carmel, Tall vine blossom laden; Splendour of heaven, Childbearing yet maiden. None equals thee.  Mother so tender, who no man didst know, On Carmel's children Thy favours bestow. Star of the Sea. O gentle Mother Who in Carmel reigns, Share with your servants That gladness you gained and now enjoy. Hail, Gate of Heaven, With glory now crowned, Bring us to safety Where thy Son is found, true joy to see. Amen.

Track 6 - Entrance Antiphon for the Feast of the Sacred Heart
Cogitatiónes Cordis eius in generatióne et generatiónem, ut éruat a morte animas eórum et alat eos in fame. Exsultate iusti in Domino, rectos decet collaudátio.

The thoughts of his heart last through every generation, that he will rescue them from death and feed them in time of famine. Rejoice in the Lord, O ye just; for praise befits the upright.

Track 9 – Pater Noster & Ave Maria
Pater noster, qui es in caelis, sanctificetur nomen tuum; Adveniat regnum tuum. Fiat voluntas tua sicut in caelo et in terra. Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie, Et dimitte nobis debita nostra, sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris. Et ne nos inducas in tentationem; sed libera nos a malo.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus tecum; benedicta tu in mulieribus, et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Jesus. Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc et in hora mortis nostrae. Amen

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Track 17 – Ave verum corpus
Ave, verum corpus natum de Maria Virgine: vere passum, immolatum in cruce pro homine: cuius latus perforatum fluxit aqua et sanguine: esto nobis praegustatum, in mortis examine. O clemens, O pie,O dulcis Jesu, Fili Mariae.

Hail the true body, born of the Virgin Mary: You who truly suffered and were sacrificed on the cross for the sake of man. From whose pierced flank flowed water and blood: Be a foretaste for us in the trial of death. O clement, O loving, O sweet Jesus, Son of Mary.

English text of Sung tracks

[3] Jesus! O! I would so love him! Love him as he has never yet been loved.
[4] Whosoever is a little one, let him come to me.
[5] Lay the axe to the root of the trees.
[7] We can never have too much confidence in our God who is so mighty and so merciful.  As we hope in him, so shall we receive.
[8] My foot stumbles, Lord.  But thy mercy is my strength.
[10] Pray ye the Lord of the harvest that he send forth labourers.
[11] The Lord knoweth our frame.  He remembereth that we are but dust.
[12] Their loss is gain for all who forsake to find thy love, O Jesu mine!  For thee my ointment jar I break, the perfume of my life is thine.
[13] Draw me: we will run after thee to the odour of thy ointments.
[15] The patient man is better than the valiant.  He that ruleth his spirit rather than he that taketh cities.
[18] It is so sweet to serve God in the dark night and in the midst of trial.  After all we have but this life in which to live by faith.
[22] Be zealous for the better gifts.  And I will show you a yet more excellent way.
[24] Greater love hath no man than this: that a man lay down his life for his friends.
[25] If any man take away thy coat, let go thy cloak also.  And whosoever will force thee one mile, go with him another two.
[26] I beseech thee to cast thy glance upon a vast number of little souls.  I entreat thee to choose in this world a legion of little victims worthy of thy love.
[30] Jesus! Meek and humble of heart, make my heart like unto thine.
[34] Give me the wings of faith to rise within the veil, and see the saints above, how great their joys, how bright their glories be.  Once they were mourning here below, and wet their couch with tears; they wrestled hard, as we do now, with sins and doubts and fears.  I ask them whence their victory came; they with united breath, ascribe their conquest to the Lamb, their triumph to his death.  They marked the footsteps that he trod, his zeal inspired their breast, and, following their incarnate God, possess the promised rest.  Our glorious Leader claims our praise for his own pattern given; while the long cloud of witnesses show the same path to heaven.

OTHER NOTES

Founded in 1996 by three Catholic composers and musicians, The Music Makers is a publisher of new and original works of liturgical music, principally for the Roman Catholic liturgy.

TMM’s aim is to add to the repertoire of quality church music, with the aim of creating new music that upholds the tradition of the Church (stemming from the Gregorian and polyphonic traditions) whilst keeping firmly in line with the guidelines set by the documents of Vatican II and subsequent documents.  It is also our objective to produce music which is accessible to the amateur as well as professional choir.

Schola Cantamus was founded in 1992 by Jeremy de Satgé as an occasional professional choir to sing at weddings, funerals and other church services as well as concerts and recordings.
